Khichdi is a light and easily digestible meal. It is gentle on the digestive system, making it ideal for detoxification and giving the digestive organs a rest. The combination of rice and lentils provides a good source of easily absorbable proteins.

Khichdi is known for its detoxifying properties. The simple ingredients and mild spices used in khichdi are believed to help in cleansing the body by eliminating toxins, promoting better digestion, and supporting the natural detoxification processes of the body.

Khichdi Recipe


Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Organic Basmati Rice
- 1/2 cup Organic Split Moong Dal
- 1/2 tsp Organic Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Organic Pink Himalayan salt
- 1 pinch Organic Hing or Asafetida powder
- 1 tsp Organic Cumin powder
- 1 tsp Organic Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Chopped Ginger
- 1 tsp Organic Black Mustard seeds
- 1-2 tablespoons of Ghee
- Chopped vegetables like green beans, carrots, celery, garlic, zucchini, peas, herbs, etc.

Instructions:
1. Soak the split Moong Dal and Rice Mix for at least one hour before cooking and rinse well.
2. Heat the ghee in a large deep saucepan over medium heat. Add the spice mix (turmeric powder, pink Himalayan salt, hing, cumin powder, coriander powder, black mustard seeds) to the ghee and cook for 1 minute, allowing the flavors to meld.
3. Add the soaked Moong Dal and Rice mixture to the pot and stir until all the grains are coated with the spice mixture.
4. Pour 4 cups of water into the pot and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to simmer and let it cook for about 30-35 minutes or until the Moong Dal and Rice are completely soft. Adjust the salt if needed.
5. During the last 10-15 minutes of cooking, add your choice of chopped vegetables to the pot and continue simmering until they are tender.
6. Serve hot and enjoy the nourishing benefits of this ancient and delicious Khichdi recipe.

 

Instapot Cooking Option:

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Organic Basmati Rice
- 1/2 cup Organic Split Moong Dal
- 1/2 tsp Organic Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Organic Pink Himalayan salt
- 1 pinch Organic Hing or Asafetida powder
- 1 tsp Organic Cumin powder
- 1 tsp Organic Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Chopped Ginger
- 1 tsp Organic Black Mustard seeds
- 1-2 tablespoons of Ghee
- Chopped vegetables like green beans, carrots, celery, garlic, zucchini, peas, herbs, etc.

Instructions for Instapot:
1. Rinse the split Moong Dal and Rice mixture thoroughly and soak it for at least one hour.
2. Set your Instapot to the "Saute" mode and heat the ghee in it. Add the spice mix (turmeric powder, pink Himalayan salt, hing, cumin powder, coriander powder, black mustard seeds) to the ghee and sauté for 1 minute, allowing the flavors to meld.
3. Drain the soaked Moong Dal and Rice mixture and add it to the Instapot. Stir well to ensure the grains are coated with the spice mixture.
4. Pour 4 cups of water into the Instapot and give it a good stir. Close the lid and set the Instapot to "Pressure Cook" mode on high pressure for 8 minutes.
5. Once the cooking time is complete, allow for a natural pressure release for about 10 minutes, and then carefully perform a quick pressure release.
6. Open the lid and add your choice of chopped vegetables to the Instapot. Stir well to combine. Close the lid again and set the Instapot to "Pressure Cook" mode on high pressure for an additional 3 minutes.
7. After the cooking time is complete, perform a quick pressure release.
8. Serve the hot and flavorful Khichdi, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
